Intelligent transportation systems

We apply technology to tackle road crashes and traffic problems in cities.

We tackle urban problems of road crashes, congestion and transit operations using data, computer vision and IoT. We build models to anticipate traffic and crashes, detect fare evasion in mass transit systems, and monitor vehicles with sensors, RFID and video analysis.

Topics

Road crashes9 works

We analyze road crashes using data science, machine learning and spatio-temporal models, integrating mobility information, socioeconomic variables, land use and non-traditional data sources. The goal is to identify patterns, characterize associated factors and develop crash prediction models for urban settings.

Traffic prediction and monitoring7 works

We develop methods for monitoring, measuring and characterizing vehicle traffic, combining computer vision, wireless sensors and data analysis. We work on vehicle detection and classification, traffic volume estimation and tracking of mobility patterns to support transportation system management.

IoT and RFID for vehicle monitoring8 works

We design identification, sensing and communication systems to monitor vehicles and public transit, using RFID, Bluetooth, IoT and embedded devices. This work includes smart readers, vehicle tracking platforms, positioning systems and communication analysis, integrating data acquisition, connectivity and processing for ITS applications.

Mass transit operations and fare evasion5 works

We develop technology to support the operation and supervision of public transit systems through vehicle tracking, arrival-time estimation, electronic identification and analysis of operational data. These tools make it possible to observe how the system behaves and to support control, safety and service management.
